India's National Awards

Bharat Ratna : It is highest national award of our country. It is given for exceptional work in field of art, literature, science or any other public service.

Padma Vibhushan : It is second highest national award. It is given for exceptional and distinguished service in any field. Government employees can also considered for it.

Padma Bhushan : It is third highest national award given for exceptional and inspiring service by Indian citizens in their respective fields.

Padma Shri : It is fourth highest award given for distinguished service by Indian citizens in their respective fields.

                                                                   Gallantry Awards

Param Vir Chakra : It is highest award of our country for an act of bravery, self - sacrifice in presence of enemy.

Maha Vir Chakra : It is given for brave act in presence of enemy. It is second highest award of this category.

Vir Chakra and Ashoka Chakra are also given for an act of bravery.

Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra are given for an act of bravery.


                                                                 Awards for field of Cinema

Dada Saheb Phalke Award : This award was instituted in 1970. It is given for outstanding contribution in field of cinema. This award is named after Dhundiraj Govind Phalke who is regarded as father of Indian cinema. It includes shawl and cash prize of ten lakh rupees.

Aditya Vikram Birla Kalashikhar Puruskar : It is a life time achievement award and is given to an exceptional artist in the field of visual and performing arts.

Bhuwalka Award : It is given to a classical guru every year by Saurabh Academy Of Music and Dance.

Filmfare Awards : It is given for an excellent performance in Indian Cinema.

Guru Kelucharan Mahopatra Award : It is given for an best performance in performing arts.

Kalidas Samman : It is a prestigious award given in field of visual arts and theater.


                                                               For Sportsperson

Arjuna Award : This prestigious award includes a ceremonial dress, cash prize of five lakh rupees, a statuette and a scroll of honour. For this award, sportsperson should have good consistent performance for previous three years at international level. He must have leadership qualities and must be a disciplinarian. It is given in disciplines like Olympic games, Asian games, commonwealth games, world cups, world championship, cricket, indigenous games and sports for physically challenged.

Dronacharya Award : It is given to person who trained sportsperson and enable his disciples to achieve outstanding results at international level. It includes cash prize of rupees five lakh, a scroll of honour, a ceremonial dress and a statuette of guru Dronacharya.

Dhyan Chand Award : It is a life time achievement award. These great sportsperson contribute to their field even after retirement. Three awards are given every year. It also includes cash prize of five lakh rupees, a plaque and a scroll of honour.

C.K. Naydu Award : An prominent award given for an excellent performance in cricket.

K.K. Birla Foundation Awards for Sports : It is for honouring sports persons for their world class performance.


                                                               For Literary Work

Saraswati Samman : It is country's highest literary award.

Bharatiya Jnanpith Award : It is given to an elite performer in the field of literature. Bengali writer Ashapoorna Devi was the first female recipient. It is sponsored by culture literacy society, Bharatiya Jnanpith.

Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad Awards : These are given for writers in different Indian languages.

Iqbal Samman Award : It is given for creative writing in Urdu literature.

Sahitya Akademi Awards : These are given to an Indian citizen for his or her exceptional contribution to field of literature.

Vachaspati Puruskar : This award is given for best Sanskrit work published in last 10 years.
